Charles Ebbets purchased Brooklyn's ballclub piecmeal througout the late nineteenth century. Ebbets took a game populated with towdies and upper-middle class spectators and brought it to the working class fan with his vision of baseball as a fan's game. Most notable was the construction of Ebbets Field. This paper traces Ebbets' work from inside the baseball establishment to reshape the attitudes and atmospheres associated with the game.
